Love Indy

Love Indy is a project that was born out of the Plan 2020 initiative. Plan 2020 is a strategic planning initiative forging a compelling future for Indianapolis. The plan is a collaboration between the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, Department of Metropolitan Development, Department of Public Works, the Indy Chamber, and community leaders to make Indianapolis a better place to live, work and visit.

In August 2014, I received a CityCorps Fellowship through Plan 2020, to create a platform for supporting the people, places and experiences that make Indianapolis a lovable city. My mission was to empower every person who lives, works and plays in Indianapolis to be an Indy ambassador: engaging in genuine conversation, connecting with their neighbors, experiencing Indy in new ways and growing the love we have for this city.

Love Letters to Indianapolis

On Valentine's Day of 2015, I launched a Love Letters to Indianapolis campaign, asking people to tell the world why they love Indy by submitting a love letter to the city. I've collected over 30 letters (electronically) so far, and have been posting them online and throughout the city.

After launching the campaign, the Indianapolis Yelp Senior Community Manager reached out about an idea to bring the campaign to paper. She connected me with the ever-so-talented Jessie Eskew of No. 18 Paper Co., a local letterpress and paper company. Jessie and I worked together to create 1,000 handmade #loveindy postcards to pass out at the Yelp Paint the Town Red event on March 19th. The best part? We brought a 100+ year-old letterpress to the event, so attendees could press their own postcards. On the back of the postcard, Jessie and I had already pressed the address of The Hall (old city hall), so people could actually mail in their Love Letter to Indy.
